Congratulations Dr. Kai Zhou!

We have another successful thesis defence from our lab! Congrats to newly minted Dr. Kai Zhou on the successful defence of his PhD thesis.

Kai studied carbonate ichnology of the upper Miocene complex of the Las Negras area, Almeria, southeastern Spain, within a paleoenvironmental and sequence stratigraphic framework.

We are excited to see where you take your career. Congratulations on this monumental achievement!

Congrats to Dr. Brittany Laing!

We would love to congratulate Dr. Brittany Laing on her recent successful PhD defence! Her thesis focused on the behavioural evolution and ecological impact of organisms as seen through trace fossils, specifically applying theories and methodologies from mathematics & behavioural biology to trace fossil datasets in order to quantitatively examine behavioural and ecological changes through time. She also completed a master’s degree with our research group where she studied the ichnology at the Ediacaran and Cambrian GSSP in Newfoundland, Canada. She is also to thank for the Ichnoplanet website!

We are forever grateful for your contributions and wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

Congratulations to Gustavo!

This past Monday our very own Gustavo Valencia successfully defended his Master’s thesis. A big congratulations to Gustavo on this great accomplishment! His thesis examined both the ichnology and fluvial architecture of the Miocene Vinchina Formation in the Vinchina Basin from NW Argentina. Keep an eye out for a journal article on the subject soon! You can hear about the research from Gustavo himself in his final seminar to the University of Saskatchewan here.

Congratulations on a successful defence!

Mariano, a few minutes after earning the title of Dr. Arregui!

On September 2nd another member of our ichnofamily, Mariano Arregui, successfully defended his thesis! His thesis studied transitional marine environments from the Lajas Formation (Middle Jurassic, Neuquén Basin, West Argentina). You can read more about his work on his ResearchGate page, where he delves into topics like the relationship between phytodetrital pulses and shrimp burrow linings or the palaeoenvironmental interpretation of the formation in the subsurface. A massive congratulations to Dr. Arregui on this incredible accomplishment!
